Promoting Code of Ethics in Teaching via online and face-to-face learning modality

Teachers Code of Ethics is a foundation and guidance for teachers in the field of teaching. This is a kind of matrix that teachers follow to avoid predicaments that may arise and to know the rights of the teachers that will allow them knowledge of the things that are applicable or not. In Article VIII: The Teachers and Learners Section 1. A teacher has a right and duty to determine the academic marks and the promotions of learners in the subject or grades he handles, provided that such determination shall be in accordance with generally accepted procedures of evaluation and measurement. In case of any complaint, teachers concerned shall immediately take appropriate actions, observing due process. Teachers are imbued to teach the students that are properly guided by the law and stretch the usage of the provisions included in the code of ethics.

Promoting a strong code of ethics in teaching is crucial for maintaining professional standards, fostering trust with students and parents, and creating a safe and supportive learning environment. The following is how I’m going to promote a code of ethics in teaching through both online and face-to-face learning modalities;

As teachers, we need to establish this at the beginning of the school year, where we need to communicate with the students regarding their ethical behavior. This includes adhering to professional standards, respecting diversity, maintaining confidentiality, and promoting a positive learning environment. With this, we can promote a conducive learning environment, as well as take everything into account smoothly.

I believe that in everything we do, we need to be a role model and a perfect example to our students by demonstrating ethical behavior in our interactions with students, and colleagues. Teachers and students need to be respectful at all times, as well as decisive by doing things effectively.

In both online and face-to-face settings, I would facilitate discussions about ethical dilemmas and real-world scenarios relevant to teaching and education. This encourages critical thinking and reflection on ethical issues that can help the students to develop their ethical reasoning skills. This is important, why? It is because this will create effective communication among teachers and students in the classroom whether it is online and or traditional setting of learning.

As teacher, I would incorporate case studies and scenarios related to ethical issues in teaching into lessons and assignments. This allows students to analyze and discuss ethical dilemmas, consider different perspectives, and practice applying ethical principles to real-life situations. This is where they can also generate enough knowledge in a certain matter that they will apply soon enough in their further studies.

Lastly, in online learning, we need to utilize our discussion effectively to facilitate our teaching methods, as well as nurture what needs to be cultivated. This provides a space for students to engage in dialogue, share their perspectives, and collaborate on ethical considerations in a virtual setting. It would be also effective if we were going to conduct this learning in a face-to-face setting.

Moreover, in promoting a code of ethics in teaching through both online and face-to-face learning modalities, let us aim to cultivate integrity, professionalism, and respect within the educational community since this will benefit the students, educators, and society as a whole. This is where we can also impart knowledge about the things we need to learn and apply in a long-term process.
